Playing with Power

Based on a question posed on iSoaker Warriors (Facebook), I’ve begun looking into the thought of being able to sort the water blasters in the iSoaker.com Database by power. This is how it is working at the moment.

In this case, “Power” is being calculated simply by taking measured output and multiplying it by range, resulting in a meter times milliliters per second unit. Not quite the most sensible unit of measure, but one that works for allowing another means to compare the performance of different water blasters. Of course, this is a reflection of “instantaneous” power and does not factor in that different water blasters can only sustain such power for short or longer periods of time.

Looking at how the water blasters are presently being ranked, the fact that total shot time isn’t taken into consideration makes some models appear more potent than they prove to be in actual use. While I also considered multiplying by shot time, I’ve presently opted not to since shot time for most of the reviews is an approximation and not measured as accurately as output or even range. This makes is much more problematic when doing calculations for water blasters high in “instantaneous power”, but short on shot time since small changes in shot time would greatly affect the resulting number.

Still debating whether or not I like how this stat is being presented or whether I should make it all into a percentage-type rating versus the CPS2000 and/or CPS2500.
